DR. JOSEPH DODDRIDGE (HIS STORY)

Dr. Joseph Doddridge

His Story

Dr. Joseph Doddridge was born in Wellsburg, Virginia on January 21, 1809 to Reverend Joseph and Jemima(Bukey) Doddridge.   In the 1850 census he was living in McArthur, Vinton Co. , Ohio.  He was a practicing Physician , with a wife, Nancy (Farabee) Doddridge [b.1809-], and two children.  Louisa E. born in Pennsylvania, in 1834, and Blackstone Phillip, born in Ohio in 1847.

He was a practicing Physician and Surgeon in McArthur for 33 years.  It was noted in History of Ohio families that several of his ancestors were Physicians.  One of the more noted was a Blackstone P. Doddridge.

Nancy ,his wife was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania.

In the year 1875, he and wife Nancy came to Caldwell County, Missouri.  Here was where son Blackstone P. Doddridge was living and farming. In the same year as they arrived ,Dr. Joseph Doddridge died.  He has a tombstone in Highland, Hamilton ,Missouri.

In the year 1880 his widow Nancy was still living, in the census she was housekeeping for three younger persons.  The 1886 History of Caldwell/Livingston Co. mentions in Sons biography that she is still living and well. I checked Caldwell County Marriages 1880-86 but couldn’t find her name listed, also couldn’t at this time find a death notice.

Joseph is my GGGgrandfather. I have found it very difficult to do a family tree. The name Doddridge is so common in the 1800s and the surname of Joseph and Philip appearing often. The other more well known Dr. Joseph (wrote the "Notes ..." always comes up and frustrates my search. I think we are all related but I don't know how.

Thank you!
