DR. WILLIAM EDGAR ERVIN (HIS STORY)

Dr. William Edgar Ervin

His Story.

 

     William Edgar Ervin was born in 1867 in Missouri to Washington J. Ervin (Mar. 4,1833 in Bedford Co. Tenn.-1923) and Harriet (Kelso) Ervin (Aug. 10,1842 Caldwell Co, Mo-1918 in Caldwell Co, Mo)  His fathers family were early pioneers to this part of the Country. His grandfather William Ervin was an early settler at Lexington, Lafayette Co. Mo. In 1835, then on to Daviess Co. in 1842. (b.Jan 6,1808, born in North Carolina.)  William Edgar’s father and grandfather were in the Drug store business early in the 1860’s.   Washington J.(father) served during the Civil War in the Confederate cause, being a member of the 3rd Missouri Inf.  After being in many battles in the South, he surrendered his arms in Selma , Alabama, and came home to Hamilton, Mo. He set up as a druggist and pharmacist in Hamilton.

         William Edgar and Ione were their children’s names.  William Edgar followed in his fathers footsteps as a druggist.  In 1880 census he listed as living with parents and a Lizzie Flint.  1900 census does not have him with his parents, but in 1910, he and wife Maude listed as living with his parent.

     A newspaper article titled”  Married in Chicago” states the following:Dr. W. Edgar Ervin 282 33rd St. and Miss Maude Eve Davidson, 3164 Prairie Ave, Chicago, Ill. Were married at 4 P.M. Wednesday , Feb. 28,1906.  The ceremony was performed at the home of mutual friends.  Dr. and Mrs. Ervin arrived here last Fri. afternoon to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.J.Ervin. While the Doctor was expected here by his family it was not known he would bring a wife.”

     The 1920 census show W.Edgar Ervin and wife living in Hamilton and a practicing Druggist. Another newspaper article, date not known states “Will locate at Sulphur Springs” Dr. Ed Ervin left today for Sulphur Springs , Indian Territory. Mr. Ervin has visited there before and choose this city to set up his practice, the town is population of 4000.

     In 1931 city directory show Dr. Ervin and wife Maude living in Lakeland Florida. In 1935 and 1940 census of Florida, the family are living in Tampa. The census also listed a 14 year old son Edgar D. Irvin living in household.  The death record shows the death of Dr. W. Edgar on Sept .12,1945. His body was cremated and ashes buried in Highland, Hamilton, Missouri.

     After William Edgar’s  death ,his wife and son moved to Baton Rouge , Louisiana.  Maude lived there until her death.  She passed away in March of 1966, and is buried in Highland, Hamilton Cemetery.

     The son Edgar D. Ervin lived in Baton Rouge all of his life.  He married a woman named Ellen.  Edgar passed away on January 29,1991, in Baton Rouge , La.
