Irving Alden

His Story

 

     Irving Alden was the eight child born to George Leonard Alden(Aug. 3,1822[Middleboro, Mass,]-July 9,1903 and Marietta(Bump)Alden (March 15,1827-October 30,1910). The family is direct descendents of John and Pricilla Alden of Plymouth& Duxbury, Mass.  Irving was born on October 8,1867 at East Middleboro, Mass.   The family lived in Middleboro, Mass. For a number of years. They were engaged in farming.

     In 1862 the family moved to Malta, Illinois and stayed for approximately two years.  One son, a brother to Irving was born in Illinois.  Shortly thereafter, the family moved back to Massachusetts, and resided there for a while.

     In 1869 the family then moved to Kidder, Caldwell Co. Missouri and took up farming. Also opened a store in Hamilton in later years, of which the sons assisted with along with farming.

     Early in the 1880’s the father George Leonard Alden decided to return to Mass. Four of the children moved back with him and remained there for the rest of their lives.  Irving was not one of them, he chose to stay in Caldwell County, and continued with farming and stock raising.

     On December 20,1894 he married Almeda Palmeter at Kingston, Missouri. Almeda was born May 4,1871 in Bay City, Michigan. They were the parents of three children, Lafayette Ellsworth(Fay) --March 22,1898-April 7,1980, Irving Dale-- May 20, 1903-May 1978, and Etta Almeda --Feb.8,1910-May 28,2008.

     The family later became know across the nation for their excellent Shorthorn Herds, and their excellence in farming.

      Irving and Almeda are both buried in Hamilton, Highland Cemetery.
