CLARA APLIN (HER STORY)

 Clara Aplin

Her Story

Clara was born in Starr, Hocking Co., Ohio in the year 1859 to Albert C. Aplin (Mar. 25,1817-Jan. 24,1897) and Elizabeth Anna (Miller) Aplin (Mar. 6,1821-June 28,1904.  She was the 9th child of 11 total for the parents.

In the 1850 census her father was listed as merchant.  In 1860 census he was listed as a farmer, and still residing in Ohio.

In the 1870 census the family had moved to Iowa, in Jasper County.  At this time Clara was still a child of 11, living with parents and all of siblings.  By 1880 still living with family, she is listed as a school teacher, and single.

In the 1900 census , she is still a single person living only with her mother Elizabeth.  On the census she is listed as a Primary teacher(age 42).  It appears that she never married.  In the 1910 census she is listed as living with a sister(Anna Meek) and brother-in-law who is listed as Professor of Public Schools.}  At this point in her life, a profession is not listed, so we must assume that she is no longer employed as a teacher.  In the 1920-1930 census she lived with one of her brothers and family.  This brother was one of the several Physicians in the family.  She is not listed in the 1940 census, but haven’t yet found her date of death and place of burial.
