An ode to my hiking buddy

Once and a while when hiking with my old friend, he in the lead, me following behind; but not a word is passed between us, for he has grown hard of hearing over the years, but occasionally hums a tune, which harmonized well enough with my philosophy.

Our intercourse was thus altogether one of unbroken harmony, far more pleasing to remember than if it had been carried on by speech.
