Thomas Dula Catron

His Story

     Thomas Dula Catron was born 4th child of 9 to John Catron and Elizabeth (Dula) Catron in Jun. 4,1852 in Caldwell Co. North Carolina. He lived with his family in North Carolina, until they moved to Caldwell Co. Missouri after the Civil War.

      In 1875 he married Mary Louise Sult 1858-1940 daughter of Powell W. Sult and Elizabeth (Tibler) Sult.  She was born in Indiana and as a child moved to Caldwell Co., Missouri with her parents where she grew up.   They were married in Hamilton, Caldwell Co. Mo.

      They settled in Leigh, Colfax Co. Nebraska .  In the census of 1885, in Nebraska they had 4 children under the age of 8 listed.  Thomas was listed as a farmer on this census. In 1888 the total children were 5, Frederick 1876-1959,Cora May1878-1905, Laura 1880-1960, Myrtle Elizabeth 1882-1905 and Robert Ernest 1888-1963

     In 1894 the family moved to Winterset, Madison Co. Iowa.  Nothing more is known about the married couple until in 1898 Thomas Dula Catron marries Eliza Jane Coombs in Shenandoah, Page Co. Iowa.  She had been married before to a Robert Mintier, and they had one daughter, Essie B. Mintier. 

     In the census of 1900 Thomas and Eliza were living in Grant, Page Co. Iowa and he was listed as stock feed agent, and she as dressmaker.

     

Thomas D. Catron died on Nov.2,1919 in Shenandoah, Iowa and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Page Co., Iowa. His 2nd wife Eliza Jane (Coombs)Catron died Dec. 17,1951 and is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Kirkwood,St..Louis Co. Missouri.
