Robert Mathias Catron His Story

Robert Mathias Catron

His Story

Robert Mathias Catron was born on April 27, 1863 in Caldwell County North Carolina to parents John Catron (1819-1873)and Elizabeth  Ann(Dula) Catron(1828-1900) He was the youngest of the 10 children born to this family.  They lived in North Carolina until after the end of the Civil War.    In 1870 the family is in Caldwell County, Missouri living on a far in Grant Township.  Three years later the father John dies.

In the census of 1880 Robert Mathias is living in Kidder with his mother Elizabeth and two sisters.

The next information I received from a descendent of the Catron family is that Robert Mathias , married a Loretta May Mendenhall in January of 1890 in Schyler, Colfax Co. Nebraska.  His brother Thomas Dula Catron was living in Colfax Co. Nebraska in the census of 1885 with his wife and 4 children.  I did not find much information on Loretta Mendenhall, but she must have died, because on December 7, of the same year 1890 he joined in marriage with Lillian Florence Miller in Caldwell Co. Missouri.

In the census of 1900 he and wife and 4 children were living in  Hamilton, Missouri and oldest brother William was living in the same household.  The census of 1910 shows the same household occupants.

In the census of 1920 the couple and the youngest child along with brother William were living in Shoal, Clinton Co. Missouri. Same for the census of 1930. William died in 1931.

In the census of 1940 Robert, wife Lillian and youngest child Sidney were living in Jefferson, Daviess Co. Missouri.  On the census it states that Robert completed 4 years of college, but doesn’t say what his occupation is other than works for self farming.

Robert Mathias Catron died in 1952 in Daviess Co. Missouri and is buried in Winston Cemetery, Daviess Co. Mo. His wife Lillian died in 1957 and is buried along side him.
