"There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated— And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated." D & C 130:20

My attempts at reading from the Book of Mormon daily with my family were rather feeble. Reading was my weak spot, and I did very little of it through school. I struggled with comprehension, so when it came to reading scriptures I had never really tried it. I did not understand scripture very well and was afraid of trying to read them with my children, so I used the animated scriptures.

Our family was pretty consistent during the school year when everyone had to get up early, but in the summer we had a lot harder time. Even with our ups and downs at obeying the prophets’ counsel in having family and personal prayers, and reading scripture, blessings came to our family that I never expected. Our Heavenly Father will bless us with even the smallest attempts at obedience to encourage us to continually improve. I attribute the family unity and love that we now enjoy as a direct result of obedience to His prophets.

I have experienced the power that comes from reading in the scriptures and testify that they are truly the words of God. Elder Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles testified in April 2010 General Conference when he stated "Youth of all ages, even infants, can and do respond to the distinctive spirit of the Book of Mormon. Children may not understand all of the words and stories, but they certainly can feel the “familiar spirit.”

I testify and bear witness that the Spirit can touch any heart that is open to receive it. It has been a great blessing to me and my family.
