A Quilt With Family Ties

Aunt Janie is holding a quilt started by grandmother, completed by Aunt Janie, made possible by Uncle Johnny and given to me who have wonderful and horrible memories about it.

Uncle Johnny drove trucks and ever so often he would get a load he  deamed useful to himself or the family.  One day he arrived with a load of disgarded scraps of fabric that litterly(literally) filled our spare bedroom.

Something strange happened when grandmother washed some of the pieces destined to become dresses, pants, potholders, place mats and ultimately quilts. Everyone in the house started scratching, and reacting as if we were allergic to our clothes and even the bed linen. We ran around in a desperate search for something cool to put out the invisible fire in our skin.

This went on for what seem like an endless time, until someone discovered that "angel hair" was in the fabric and was being washed with our clothes.

To baby boomers: Yes, this was in the late 60s, as you probably determined by the fabric designs.
To my family: do you recall any gift that looked a little like this?

Additonal note:  This picture was taken July 1991 and quilt given to me at Emily\'s house.
